For families that
can’t help being themselves

My style of photography is called documentary photography, which sounds like something David Attenborough should be involved in but actually it just means that nothing is posed or staged. I love it because it’s all about you being you. You don't need to dress up or worry about having tidy hair, or perfectly behaved kids, or a pristine house. You don’t need to hold a pose or smile for the camera until your jaw hurts. All you need to do is just be your normal brilliant selves and make the most of spending some time with the people you love.

Cherishing individuality

“You are unique, just like everyone else.”

I recently saw this on a card and it cracked me up. Apart from the funny caption, the photo on the card was pretty awesome too: it showed four kids in homemade superhero costumes, looking delighted with themselves. They didn’t care if their masks were made from their dads’ old sports socks. In fact, they were proud of their masks, and their pyjama-bottom tights and their bin-liner capes. Mostly they were just proud of themselves because they knew how amazing and one-of-a-kind they were. Kids are so smart, aren’t they?!

I would love to take photos of you being your unique superhero self. Trust me, you’ll look incredible - because you are!

Celebrating belonging

What is it about belonging that makes us feel more like ourselves?

I’m talking about the fact that those other awesome superheroes on your squad know all about your obsession with crosswords and think it’s a bit weird but they also love you for it. It goes both ways of course; they’re weird too, but hey, it feels pretty special when someone lets you in on what makes them tick. For some reason your partner’s hair first thing in the morning makes you feel all warm and fuzzy and more often than not you’re tickled by the way your toddler scowls at you when you give her any kind of vegetable.

Come to think of it, you may want some photos with those special people so you can celebrate belonging to the best weird superhero team ever!

Documentary family photography sessions

I would love to photograph you and your very one-of-a-kind family. These are the types of sessions I offer:

  • Two-hour documentary sessions which can be structured around activities that your family loves to do together (riding bikes, blowing bubbles, making cookies, you name it).

  • Half day-in-the-life documentary sessions in the morning or afternoon to celebrate all the usual routines, rituals, activities, snuggles, tantrums, and togetherness.

  • Newborn documentary sessions revolving around your newborn’s “schedule” (or not)… I’ll just come over for a few hours and nobody needs to worry about anyone falling asleep, fussing, or needing a full outfit change.

Session fees start at £75.
