One rainy day

Growing up on the west coast of Canada, I spent a good chunk of my time out in the rain. I used to love going out in it - especially when it was the windswept, wild kind of rain like it was on this day at Temple Newsam in Yorkshire. This soggy family was a delight to photograph as they bravely ventured forth undeterred by the sideways onslaught of rain and their uncooperative umbrella. The kids quickly embraced the rainy adventure, hair plastered to their heads and water dripping from their noses as they raced up and down the path and played football on the muddy hills. We had the park to ourselves; the only souls daring (or crazy) enough to be out in that sort of weather. It felt like we’d taken the road less travelled, and it had made all the difference. Our trip ended in the best way possible, with a welcome glimmer of sunshine and ice cream cones from Mr Whippy.
